CHARLES BURNS was born in Washington, D.C., and now lives in Philadelphia with his wife, Susan, their two daughters, and a black cat named Iggy (also known as Ignatz). He is the creator of the on-going comic book Black Hole, recently collected as a graphic novel, and an illustrator for magazines such as Time, Rolling Stone, and The Believer. He is currently working on a short animated film.
