BARBARA McCLINTOCK has had three of her previous books win The New York Times Best Illustrated Books award. Runaway Shadow was inspired by one of her favorite strange stories, “The Shadow” by Hans Christian Andersen. Barbara is quite attached to her shadow and tries to treat it right. She is also very attached to her son, Larson, her friend David Johnson, and Kato, her possessive cat.
